Message from Dean
The School of Chemical & Biotechnology is an integrated School comprising the divisions of Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology and Optometry. The academic programmes of the School equip the learners with competencies needed to function effectively in corporate world and pursue post graduate / doctoral studies. The School has an impressive faculty-to-learner ratio with more than 90 % of faculty members holding doctoral degree and 70 % of them have executed/ executing extramural funded research projects. The School is part of 12 different research centres and central facilities of the Institute. The strong intellectual capital, state-of-the-art infrastructure for academics & research coupled with collaborative ecosystem capable of inspiring young minds are propelling the School’s research output and the progression of its graduates The research work of our students & faculty resulted in 2250+ research articles with an average impact factor of 4.3 and a h-index of 67, as of Jan 2022. Since 2015, the School has involved in execution of 142 research / consultancy projects with a total outlay over Rs 70 crore. With the establishment of DST-supported Technology Business Incubator, FIRST and DBT-supported BioNest, ABLEST, access to 3D printers (FDM, SLA and SLS based printers), Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) system and BSL-3 facility, the innovation ecosystem provides infrastructure, technical support and mentoring for incubation / campus startups. The vibrant student associations of each division of SCBT nurtures & nourishes the leadership & other co-curricular skills in students such that they graduate as a holistic individual, aligned with our Institution's vision. The School engages in outreach activities instilling a sense of social consciousness among the learners.
