M.Optom
Programme Educational Objectives
The Master of Optometry programme brings out the best of two institutions that partner to create a unique course amalgamating the cutting-edge areas of basic and applied sciences and also by integrating classroom learning with real-time experience in the vision healthcare and clinical research to shape the next generation optometrists who are highly-skilled to lead optometry healthcare team and researchers par excellence. The programme aims to
- Impart fundamental concepts and principles of sciences, technology, component and systems design to the learner
- Equip learners with techniques to explore the interface of biology, optics and technology
- Provide a broad base for Optometry spanning from mathematics to basic accountancy, human physiology to monocular sensory perception, biochemistry to microbiology, systemic diseases to epidemiology, ocular anatomy to ocular pharmacology, physical and geometrical optics to optometric instrumentation
- Give hands-on training in laboratories for reinforcing theoretical concepts
- Provide rigorous training in clinical set-up for enhancing their communication, diagnosis and time management skills
- Train learners to design, develop and implement unique engineering strategies that will help to solve challenges in optometry
- Transform the learners into confident and responsible individuals capable of working as a team, possess soft skills and social responsibility
Programme Learning Outcomes
The M.Optom. (Masters in Optometry) programme at SASTRA Deemed-to-be-University is designed to impart a fundamental knowledge of the life sciences, mathematics and advanced optometry techniques to the students. Upon completion of this programme, graduates will be able to:
- Enumerate the working principles of various biological and physiological systems
- Apply the principles of science and engineering to identify, evaluate and design
- experiments towards providing optometry healthcare solutions
- Employ modern techniques and tools in Optometry to develop innovative solutions
- Design application-oriented systems and devices using biological and physical principles of the optometry
- Evaluate, analyze and interpret data from optometry systems and devices
- Question, innovate and experiment with out-of-the-box strategies to monitor, restore or replace visual systems
- Communicate effectively and function on multidisciplinary teams
- Contribute effectively to society with a strong ethical and environment consciousness to improve the quality of life
